Phonics
At Bushey Heath Primary School, we use Essential Letters and Sounds, a complete Systematic Synthetic Phonics Programme (SSP), to teach phonics. We use a systematic approach for teaching children to read using phonics to ensure that all children have access to high-quality, daily phonics teaching. We combine the Letters and Sounds programme with a wide range of expertly aligned, high-quality, fully decodable reading books and engaging interactive resources. This gives all children a solid base upon which to build their reading skills as they progress through school as well as helping children to develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information.
